Session 6

What does it mean to trust in the Father?

The second half of the Our Father relates to the way in which we rely on the Father for our daily bread, for his forgiveness, for help in times of temptation.

Watch the video for a reflection on the fourth petition of the Our Father:

Give us this day our daily bread.

See handouts for meditations and reflection questions.

The Catechism explains that we do not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God...It also talks about a deeper hunger within each of us that cannot be satisfied by the things of this world. (CCC 2835)

Challenge questions:

In what ways is God calling you to trust Him?

What do you do to fill that hunger for more than the things of this world can give?

Freedom from the Chains of Unforgiveness.

Forgive us our trespasses...

The Catechism explains that God's outpouring of mercy cannot penetrate our hearts as long as we have not forgiven others in our lives. (CCC 2840)

"So also my heavenly Father will do to every one of you, if you do not forgive your brother from your heart." It is there, in fact, "in the depths of the heart," that everything is bound and loosed. (CCC 2843)

Most of us have someone in our lives who is in need of our forgiveness and mercy and whose forgivness we need.

Challenge questions:

Who do you need to forgive in order to be set free?

In what ways can I live mercy more in my own life so that others may find me more approachable?
